How to Obtain a License

An applicant for a Florida Community Association Manager (CAM) License must:

• be at least 18 years old
• Pass exam within 12 months of course completion
• Be of good moral character as evidenced by fingerprints and application information

Florida residency is not required.

Application approval generally takes 15-30 days.

The steps outlined below will begin the process to obtain a Florida CAM License.

Step 1: Register for Class

Courses are available in Fort Myers, Naples, and Online. All applicants are required to satisfactorily complete 16 hours of pre-licensure education within 12 months prior to the date of examination.

16 Hour CAM License Course

• $299 tuition for the Classroom Course.
• $259 tuition for the Instructor-Led Online Course.

Step 2: Submit State Application

Submit a license application to the Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR). On the application you will share information about yourself and include a fee of $155.50 payable to the DBPR.

Step 3: Register for Electronic Fingerprinting

Florida requires electronic fingerprints * be taken in order to run a criminal background check.

In Florida

If you are in Florida, either permanently or visiting, you may get your fingerprints taken electronically through a Florida approved live scan vendor. Fingerprint reservations can be made online or by phone:

• To make a reservation online, go to the IdentoGO website(formerly PearsonVUE), and complete the following steps in order:
  1. Choose "Schedule a New Appointment."
  2. Choose "Department of Business and Professional Regulation" as the Agency Name.
  3. Choose "DBPR - CAMS" as the ORI Number.
  4. Enter your zip code.
  5. Select a location, date and time.
  6. Complete your personal information and submit payment.

• To make reservation by phone, contact the customer support center at 877-238-8232 to select a date and time that is convenient for you.

Cost of fingerprinting is $58.02.

If you are in Naples, Florida, the closest provider is Fieldprint, located right next door to our classroom facility at Cecil's Copy Express. Make a reservation online or call 877-614-4364. The cost is $55.

Outside of Florida

If you are not in Florida, request that a DBPR - CAMS fingerprint card be mailed to you. A fingerprint card may be obtained from the Department of Business and Professional Regulation by contacting the Customer Contact Center at 850-487-1395.

*CAM license fingerprint records are good for 90 days.

If you are asked for the "ORI" number at any time during the fingerprint process, use FL921932Z. This is how the fingerprinting company knows your fingerprints are for the Florida Community Association Manager License.

Step 4: Attend the 16-Hour Course

The 16 Hour CAM License course must be completed in its entirety prior to taking the state exam. You will receive your Course Completion Certificate on the final day of the course verifying your professionalism and your understanding of community association management guidelines. Your Course Completion Certificate is valid for 1 year. If you have an expired Certificate, you must re-attend the 16 Hour CAM License course prior to taking the state exam.

Step 5: Submit your Course Completion Certificate

Upon completion of your course, you will upload your course completion certificate on your DBPR account. You may also mail or fax your course completion certificate to the DBPR in order to complete your application process. When remitting documents to the state send them to:

Be sure to include your application number, full name, and contact information (phone number and email address).

Step 6: Schedule and Pass the State Exam

After completing Step 5 by submitting your Course Completion Certificate, it typically takes the state 10-30 days to complete your approval. Once approved for the state exam, you will receive an “Authorization to Test” email notification from PearsonVue that you are able to test. Scheduling can be completed online or by calling 888.204.6230. The exam fee is $49.50 payable at the time of registration.

Your exam approval status is good for one (1) year from the date you were approved. A passing score is 75 out of 100 questions answered correctly.

In the "Authorization to Test" email, you are provided with a Candidate ID/FLREAPP number. You will use this 9-digit Candidate ID number when signing up for the exam with PearsonVue.
